All the glory is attributed to coffee. But behind the mug of the morning, there is a whole cast of compounds which people use silently to sharpen brains, stretch memory or just feel less mentally, rusty What Are Nootropics. They are nootropics, which are also referred to as smart drugs, but the latter is an exaggeration.

Let’s be real. There is no medicine that will turn you into a genius in a day. Had there been such, we ought all to have been setting symphonies at lunch. These substances can do, on a good day, the job of putting your brain in a better state.

Some are familiar. The most evident one is caffeine. Add it to L-theanine (in tea) and you are likely to experience a smoother alertness. The jitter is less, the glide is more. You are like transforming a dirty road to a fresh asphalt one.

There are those that are like they were in a sci-fi novel. Racetams, for example. Piracetam is one that was an innovator in that category decades ago. Individuals complain of improved thinking. Others feel… nothing. That is a trend in this area–performance is all over the place.

And there are adaptogens. Rhodiola rosea or Ashwagandha are examples of herbs. These don’t hit like espresso. They work in a less blatant manner. Consider them as stress shock absorbers. Bad week at work? These might take the edge off, not erase it.

Once, one of my friends told me, that he had taken something called Alpha-GPC, and that he then had merely gone out and cleaned the entire apartment. When you hear it is a great thing until you realize that he also had three deadlines and no distractions. It is a question of context rather than capsules.

Things get serious at safety. The fact that something is natural does not imply that it is harmless. Nicotine is natural. So is poison ivy. Dosage matters. Interactions matter. Your sleep, diet and stress level are all the more important. When the latter are in a mess, then no supplement will come to the rescue.

People like to put various nootropics together, a phenomenon referred to as stacking. It is also quite untidy in a short term. Individuals combine five, six, ten compounds and end up wondering why they feel bad. Start simple. A change at a time. Your brain is not a chemistry set that will allow you to do some experiments on the weekend.

The placebo effect is also it. And firmer than the majority of us. When you believe that something will be good, there are times when it is good-at least in the short-run. That is no cause to make you a fool. It makes you human.

Even the most tedious tips are still the most appropriate: sleep properly, exercise your body, eat reasonably. Any capsule in the market is beaten by them. At most, nootropics are on top of that base. In its absence, you are constructing the sand castle.

Curiosity is fine. Experimentation may be helpful. All you have to do is keep your expectations in a realistic manner. When a label boasts laser focus, photographic memory and unlimited motivation, then chances are that it is selling dreams, not results.

And honestly? There are days when a glass of water and a walk outside could be the best things to do. More popular among your brain than you might think.
